INSPIRING LADY!
She inspires me. Plain and simple.
As Wendy walked down the aisle in front of the priest...holding the bible in the air...she warmed my heart...As she strode straight up to the altar where she read from the pulpit in a slow, deliberate but gentle voice-I felt touched. She is one of those rare beacons of light who has been tested by fire...but who-somehow found the strength to stomp out the burning blaze before it destroyed her.
She's a mom and a lawyer and the kind of lady who laid low during a publicly embarrassing situation involving her politician husband. She held it together...held tight to her family and defied the odds when the odds were against her. But she did it...with faith and family and her future-in tact. And in my eyes-she's a winning leader. The kind of Lady I look up to-because she made the tough choices that led to the most extraordinary results.
You see, in my book, if things were going to be perfect-we wouldn't be here. We'd be in heaven. Since we're here, we're going to face gut wrenching challenges-and some of them are going to be real nail biting tearjerkers... And sometimes we're going to get destroyed in the process...crumbling into fractured pieces of who we once were. We're not going to know if we can ever put ourselves back together again--and bigger still-we're not going to know if we can put our relationships back together again-or if we even want to.
Sometimes-some people will decide not to pick themselves up or anyone else...for that matter...Some people will just wipe the dust from their dirty shoes and walk away from their messes and their commitments and the challenges that churn the despair... They'll yell "Adios" while the door slams in your face.
But then-there are are leaders like the lady tonight at Mass who will move the mountain that blocked the light and cast a dark shadow of doubt on her world...She'll find the courage and the strength to make the most of the most difficult circumstances because her life and the lives of those she Loves depend on her. She will make all the difference in the world in her world while touching the rest of the world in ways she may never, ever know.
As I walked down the aisle our eyes met...she smiled, I winked...and I carried away with me the memory of her tall statuesque figure...her classic good looks and the radiant joy of one whose spirit is soaring...to heavenly heights-simply because she made it a point, to make the most- of a mind blowing situation....
And let's face it- in the end-it was she-who blew everyones mind!
