115 Years Young!

Like the energizer bunny she kept on ticking...until her last breath at 115 years young. The oldest living person to cross over-is our reminder of the age defying odds which we can all overcome.

You know what they say--it's all in the mind...but sometimes-it comes straight out of the mouth--with little or no thought. I was stunned to hear the sermon-"I know most of us don't want to die-but who wants to live to be that old? Other than her heart beating-what is the quality of her life?" I whispered to my son, "Has he forgotten about her spirit within...her eternal soul...her higher supernatural dimension?!"

Call me naive, call me idealistic...or call me anything at all-- but -until her last breath--her quality of life rested in every breath she took. As long as she was breathing-as long as blood pumped through her veins--she had purpose and possibilities and people who loved her. She had value!

We are both spirit and matter--internal and external...And our perception of what matters...is directly influenced by our internal spiritual connection...Living beyond our perception is half the battle..Seeing with the eyes of faith...even when we are blinded by the world around us.

Think about it--cloistered Carmelite Nuns and Buddhist Monks who spend their lives in prayer--away from the hustle and bustle of the external world---may never leave their monasteries...But in their silence- their prayers are powerful tools -channeling change and re-charging Love- light years away. They don't have to lift a finger--to lift our spirits- to a higher level than we will ever rise to- by human standards.

In the west we often believe that the value of our lives can be summed up in the collection of our material belongings, our personal success and our health--how good we look or feel...But as age marches on ---and the stock market crashes in-we've learned we're wrong...painfully wrong.

Long after our bodies have withered away...and our minds have lost their luster--losing memory and meaningful thought--our soul soars to new heights...Internally inspiring the way for the ultimate life beyond the shell of imperfection that we cling to- while running the race against time.

Our soul exists within the living--and long after we have bid our final farewell...for our eternal life--and to let us know--here and now--that our lives have value...whatever our condition...whatever our age!

Absolutely true - and so eloquently told. I too believe that as long as we have life, we still have something to contribute. It may be wisdom that only comes from age or surviving difficult circumstances, or something as simple as a smile - but we are all here to contribute our God-given uniqueness.
