COLDPLAY IN NEW ORLEANS!

VIVA LA VIDA!
LONG LIVE LIFE!

The words are still ringing in my ears and now the CD is booming in my car. Brilliantly inspiring, this song lifts and glides the spirit up, up and away... At least that's what it does for me...every time I hear it.

Coldplay came to town last night and cradled the crowd with their soothing melodies and deeply introspective lyrics. I'm fascinated with rock bands that dare to be different...Those who dare to desire a deeper intimacy between their music and their message.

Coldplay digs deep into the very core of the human experience and with sweet intensity, caresses the spirit into a soothing, yet sensual submission. A humbling eroticism that is both self sacrificing and surreal-because it takes us beyond our own subjectivity and humanity.

Somewhere across the miles that separate us from the divine, this band has been able to connect time and space and their own sense of reality-creating music that will massage and motivate our minds indefinitely.

My two youngest sons, 10 year old Zachary and 11 year old Jacob, will probably tell you about the laser lights, the huge helium bouncing balloons, the pink and green floating paper butterflies...and the swaying sea of humanity, standing and singing backup to the band. But the musical imprint is certain to keep them humming through the hot humid summer-especially when they ride in my car.

Coldplay's Grammy winning song, Viva La Vida, contains historical and religious references...dealing with the pain of being deposed from a lofty position of power...and seeing the consequences of our lives in the afterlife..."I know St. Peter won't call my name."

But mainly, the majestic symphonic power of the song which blends so beautifully the strings and percussion...with the bass drums and guitar, sets Coldplay right up there with the best that God has anointed...to inspire the rest of us to feel more passionately, to enjoy more completely and to Love this life-as much as we Love the sounds of the songs that keep us singing their praises, long after the music has ended.
