Betrayal and Rejection
I hear a lot of painful stories from people. I heard some of them today.
At the heart of their pain, very often, is betrayal and rejection.
I know that pain all too well. And I know how debilitating it can feel. But over time I have learned that at the core of betrayal- is a lie. Those who betray others, first have to convince themselves of a lie...that they have been formulating, cultivating and engineering over time. By the time they betray-they come to believe their lie and so the lie takes on a life of its own...seductively drawing in others who unwittingly participate in fostering the same lie, until even more lives fall into the evil snare of betrayals painful poison.
Those who betray often use half truths or intimate details of an individuals life to gain power and control over them and to push them over the edge into a swarming sea of controversy and confusion. It is a sadly insidious scenario, hearing what people willfully do to harm others-in order to help themselves. It is as old as time-just look at Adam and Eve.
But with time, I've also learned that patience, perseverance and a life of truth and honesty, always overcomes the negative effects of betrayal...and replaces the negative feelings of rejection-with feelings of relief and eventually-peace. Because at the heart of any good person-is an innocent faith and belief in the fundamental truth- that relying on a power greater than ourselves...always leads us to victory- in the end. And in the process-we grow to understand our strengths and our weaknesses and the lessons we are here to learn.
Those who betray? Well-we can only pray that somehow- they find truth...before their dignity and eventually, their sanity...slips even further down that slippery slope of self induced, self centered- soul binding- self destruction.
Jesus cried out from the cross, "Father-forgive them for they know not what they do!" I try to remember that...and I try to share that sentiment with those who are hurting -and the infallible timeless truth-that God never leaves us...and he never lets us down...no matter how bad things seem...or how hopeless we feel...or how badly we have been betrayed...God is always there -propping us up-in preparation for our ultimate victory -a victory based on a life- lived in truth!
